Supremacy & The Church: Breaking down anti-Blackness w/ D. Danyelle Thomas

Author of "The Day GOD Saw Me As Black", D. Danyelle Thomas gets to ki-ki with me about the church, AI, nonprofits, her next book, and more!

I met D. at the Beaucoup Hoodoo Fest in New Orleans back in 2023, I believe. She was providing a fire chat during the gathering. Her fire chat was titled, “If Jesus Don’t Fix It, The Hoodoo Lady Will”. Of course I gravitated to her during our time there that year. She had just finished her book, and was so excited about sharing details about the pre-order. We’ve been connected ever since.

Are you deconstructing from the church or Christianity? Are you craving a deeper understanding of spirituality beyond traditional boundaries? Wondering how faith intersects with liberation, cultural critique, and Black lived experience? In this post, we explore profound insights from a compelling conversation with Dr. Danyelle Thomas — a public theologian, writer, and founder of Unfit Christian — who challenges us to think beyond the dogma and envision a faith rooted in liberation, community, and ancestral wisdom.

Her debut book, The Day God Saw Me as Black, meets cultural critique with spiritual reclamation and invites listeners into a spirituality that honors the mess, the joy, and the mystery. It’s one of my favorite books, and I’m not just saying that because she’s my homegirl.

Just get into this episode to learn more about her and her work. I highly recommend listening to her book on audible if you haven’t tapped into it already.
